Men's Golf Headed to NCAA Division III Championships

WHEELING, WV – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team will compete at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships at the Olebay Resort & Conference, in Wheeling, WV from May 11-14. The championships are hosted by Bethany College and the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

The Lions are making their ninth overall appearance to the NCAA Tournament after winning their eighth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title this spring to earn the conference's automatic bid. Sophomore Ryan Meyer (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) was the individual champion at the AMCC Championships with a two-day total of 148 (75-74). Alex Pol (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) finished third overall with a 158. Both were recently named to the All-AMCC first team, while Meyer earned Co-Golfer of the Year.

Joining Meyer and Pol will be Jake Caldwell (Belle Vernon), Ryan Johnson (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley) and Michael Dinner (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) to round out the top five golfers for the Lions.

The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. Thirty-seven teams and six individuals not on one of those teams will be selected to participate in the championships. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

A total of 191 participants will compete at the 2021 championships. Thirty conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the championships. Four teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final three berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. The six individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
