Penn State Behrend Women's Basketball Team Enters the Pink Zone

This Saturday, February 21 the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team is sponsoring a Pink Zone initiative to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Pink Zone T-shirts will be sold during the games in the Junker Center, donations will be accepted at the door, and fans are encouraged to wear pink articles of clothing.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Erie unit of the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The Behrend women will tip-off with Pitt-Bradford at 6:00 p.m.   As part of an "Economic Stimulus" Night, admission will be just $1 at the door, with free admission for Penn State Behrend students.

Head coach Roz Fornari said, "Our team is happy to be a part of this initiative to add and create awareness, and especially on a special night when we honor our seniors."

This is the final regular season home game for both the women's basketball team, and the Behrend seniors will be honored before the game.  The women have two senior players on the roster, guards Natalie Engel (McDonald/Fort Cherry) and Ellen Kolos (Bellefonte/Bellefonte).  Engel is leading the team in scoring at 13.4 ppg while starting all 23 games.  Kolos has played in 20 games knocking down 14 3-point shots and averaging 4.1 ppg.

Behrend women's basketball is currently 12-11 overall and 10-7 in AMCC play.  The Behrend women can earn a #4 or #5 seed with a win over Pitt-Bradford, and depending on tiebreakers based on other league results from Saturday.  The AMCC basketball conference championship tournaments will begin on Tuesday, February 24 with the #3 seed hosting the #6 seed, while the #4 seed hosts the #5 seed.
