ERIE, Pa. – June 6, 2014 – Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has selected Christine Slater, a three-time All-PAC first-team choice, to coach the women's basketball team. She becomes the sixth coach in the program's history. 

"I am thrilled and honored to be the head coach at Penn State Behrend," Coach Slater said. "I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence." 

Slater was an assistant women's basketball coach and the head softball coach at Grove City College. As an undergraduate, she was a basketball standout at Grove City, selected three times for the All-PAC first team. She led the PAC in scoring during her final two years and was second in rebounding. She finished her undergraduate career as the second all-time leading scorer, with 1,634 points. 

She also was a four-year starter in the infield for the Grove City softball team, earning All-PAC honors each season. 

Slater spent two seasons as the graduate assistant for the Waynesburg University women's basketball program. She also assisted the softball team for one season, in 2013. 

She returned to Grove City in 2013, working with the women's basketball team and serving as interim head coach for softball. She led the Wolverines to a 12-21 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the PAC. In addition to coaching, she worked as an instructor of physical education in circuit training. 

"I am excited to have Coach Slater join our athletic department," said Brian Streeter, director of athletics at Penn State Behrend. "She will bring a lot of enthusiasm to our program. Her success as a player, along with her experience recruiting Division III student-athletes, should benefit her as she steps into the head coaching role here at Penn State Behrend."

Slater, a 2011 graduate of Grove City College, studied communications. She received a master's degree in business administration from Waynesburg University in 2013.
