Hearn, Ohlsson Crowned AMCC Wrestling Champions; Lions Place Third

ALFRED, NY – Senior Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, PA/Conneaut) and freshman Martin Ohlsson (Westfield, NY/Westfield Academy) were crowned 2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Wrestling Champions on Saturday at Alfred State.

Team Results: Alfred State (191.5), Penn Tech. (123.5), Behrend (96), Pitt-Bradford (52.5), Hiram (21.5)

Key Moments:

* The Behrend Lions took third place with 96 team points, 56 points more than last year's AMCC Championship total
* Hearn (149) and Ohlsson (157) are the program's first AMCC Champions in just the second year the conference has held a championship meet
* Behrend had nine wrestlers place in the top four, including second place by Matthew Caldwell (Wheatfield, NY/Starpoint) and third place from Ja'Shad Bumpers (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls)
* Hearn and Ohlsson each registered a 3-0 record on the day to earn gold medals
* At 149, Hearn started the day with a 19-2 technical fall over Ryan Trimber of Penn, before posting a 12-2 major decision against Ben Lloyd of Alfred State
* In the championship match, Hearn took down TJ Martin of Penn Tech. by a 7-5 decision
* For Ohlsson at 157, the newcomer pinned Alex Johnson of Alfred State and then had a close 12-11 decision over Liam Goodrich of Penn Tech. to advance to the championship bout
* Ohlsoon defeated Ethan Morison of Alfred State 5-3 to win the 157 weight class
* Caldwell, competing at 197, advanced to the finals with a 3-2 decision over Gabriel Kennedy-Citeron but then falling to Blake Ilges of Alfred State (MD, 15-5)
* Bumpers bounced back with three straight wins after dropping into the consolation bracket to claim third
* Bumpers, wrestling at 125, posted two wins by fall and the final one by decision 7-3 over Ryan Farley of Alfred State for third place
* Cole Neil (Saint Mary's, PA/Saint Marys), Jake Brown (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg), Lane Dellaquila (Saint Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic), Ryan Gildersleeve (DuBois, PA/DuBois), and Eric Morales (San Antonio, TX/Burbank) all placed fourth in their respective weight class
