Three Named to Wrestling All-AMCC Team; Garvey Voted Coach of the Year

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team had three student-athletes named to the 2023-24 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Team, while head coach Caleb Garvey was voted Coach of the Year.

Senior Peyton Hearn (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut) and freshman Martin Ohlsson (Westfield, NY/Westfield Academy) landed on the First Team, while freshman Matthew Caldwell (Wheatfield, NY/Starpoint) received Second-Team accolades. It is the first time the wrestlers and Garvey have earned this honor. Garvey led the Lions to a third-place finish at the AMCC Championships and had two individual champions along with a pair of regionally-ranked wrestlers this season.

Hearn was crowned AMCC Champion at 149. He has a 23-4 overall record between the 149/157 weight class, and leads the team with nine dual wins and seven technical falls. Hearn boasts a 92.0 winning percentage at the Division III level and is ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Region. He also placed second at the W&J and RIT Invitationals.

Ohlsson became the second AMCC Champion in program history. He won the title at 157 with a fall and two decision victories. Ohlsson has 15 wins on the season and is ranked second on the team with eight pins. He also has three technical falls and six dual-meet wins.

Caldwell finished second at the 197 weight class at the AMCC Championship meet. He has a 14-11 record on the season and is ranked third on the team with seven pins. Caldwell posted a 7-3 dual-meet record, while placing sixth at the RIT Invitational.

The Lions return to action on Friday, March 1 at the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional.
