Records Fall in Second Meet for Women’s Track and Field

GENEVA, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Spire Midwest Open on Saturday.

The Lions competed against Division I and II schools with two athletes breaking school records.

Alex Paget-Blanc (Paris, France/Aelene Boucher) set two new records.  A week after setting the 60m hurdles record, Paget-Blanc set a new standard at 9.88 in the preliminaries.  She also broke the school record in the 600m run with an eighth place finish at 1:43.66.  Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) had a record-setting day as well.  The junior placed 13th in the 3000m run and broke the school record set in 2004 with a time of 10:47.68.

Bertges teamed up with Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven), Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) and Jamie Szramowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) for the 4x800m relay.  The squad finished at 9:43.35, a time good enough to qualify for ECAC's.

Another Behrend relay team at a solid day on the track.  Angela Sweeney (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Corinne Conto (Bruin, PA/Karns City), Abby Gilmore (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), and Felicia Parker (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) ran the 4x400m relay and took ninth place with a time of 4:19.59.

Harwood, Sweeney, and Nicole Teribery (Bradford, PA/Bradford) all competed in the pole vault.  Harwood took 10th place at 3.10m.  Sweeney and Teribery took 12th and 13th place respectively, each with a vault of 2.95m.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday at the Mt. Union Invitational.  Start time is set for 10 a.m.
