Women’s Track and Field Competes at Mt. Union Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Mt. Union Invitational on Saturday.

The women's distance medley relay team led the way with an ECAC qualifying time.  The group of Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren), Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven), Alex Paget-Blanc (Paris, France/Aelene Boucher), and Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished the meet's most exciting race in second place with a time of 12:56.75, just behind the winning time of 12:56.46.

Staying on the track, Jamie Szramowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) had strong finishes in the 1000m run.  Szramowski finished in 3:17.88 for third place while Hughes finished in 3:26.30 for seventh place.

In the 5000m run, Danielle Stanko (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) and Katie Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) each had top-10 finishes.  Stanko finished with a time of 19:51.62 for third place with Patterson crossing the line at 21:17.37 for eighth place.

Freshmen Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Miranda Boatman (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had strong times in the 3000m run.  Manno took fifth place at 11:58.04 with Boatman close behind in seventh place at 12:21.77.

In the field events, three Behrend athletes placed in the top-10.  Harwood placed second in the pole vault at 3.21m.  Nicole Teribery (Bradford, PA/Bradford) also competed in the pole vault and placed fourth at 3.06m.  Maranda Tano (Butler, PA/Knoch) took 10th place in the weight throw with a distance of 10.37m.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, New York.
