Behrend's MacManus and Pontillo Honored by Collegiate Water Polo Association

Penn State Behrend women's water polo players Hilary MacManus (Beaver Falls/Blackhawk) and Stefania Pontillo (Erie/McDowell) were honored on April 23 by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.  MacManus earned the Division III Defensive Player of the Week Award while Pontillo was selected as the Division III Player and Rookie of the Week.

MacManus played two quarters in goal versus Chatham University and made eight saves in a 6-4 victory on April 19.  Trailing by one score with 5:35 left in the fourth quarter, the sophomore faced a five-meter penalty shot which she stopped and fed to the offense to help the Behrend Lions tie the game with 5:22 remaining. 

Pontillo contributed three goals and four steals in the victory over Chatham University.  Behrnd trailed 4-1 at half before Pontillo took charge and scored two goals in the third quarter to bring the game within one marker.  Thanks to help from her teammates in the fourth quarter she put the final touches on the game with her third score with 3:12 remaining on the clock to put the Behrend Lions up 6-4.  The freshman also grabbed four steals for the game, including three in the crucial fourth quarter.
