STEUBENVILLE, OH –Justin Kovac dropped a season-high 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting to lead all Behrend scorers in a 56-37 win over conference opponent Franciscan at the Finnegan Field House, Saturday.
Russ Conley just missed his second double-double of the season after pulling down 11 rebounds and netting nine points. Nick Dvorsky also played a solid game for the Lions (13-1, 8-0 AMCC) registering eight of his own while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
Thomas Kleinschnitz was the only Baron's (2-11, 2-7 AMCC) player to reach double-digit scoring with 15.
Two back-to-back triples by Pat St. Andrews and a Shane Skelly layup, gave Behrend a 16-4 advantage at the 10:35 mark. The men would then push the lead as Nick Dvorsky tallied a couple of scores (22-6) with less than seven minutes remaining in the half. The Lions would march into the locker room up, 25-16.
After trading buckets in early in the second half, Behrend would go on a 17-6 run that started at the 13:04 mark and ended 10 minutes later with 3:39 to go, 31-50.
The Lions defense held Franciscan to a stingy 27.3 field-goal percentage and a 25.0 three-point shooting percentage to defeat the Barons, 56-37 and remain undefeated in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Both the men's and women's teams will host Medaille in their first televised basketball game of the season, January 19, with the men's tip-off at 8 p.m.
