Lions Take Two in AMCC Action

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team won a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matches, defeating Hilbert and Penn State Altoona by a 3-1 score on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (9-4, 2-0 AMCC) posted their second win over the Hawks this season, this time 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-16 in the first match. In the second match, Altoona won the first set 25-23 and Behrend claimed three straight sets 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18 to go undefeated on the day.

Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) knocked down 33 kills on the day, including a season-high 20 kills against Hilbert. Nathan Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) registered a combined 30 kills with a team-high 16 kills vs. Altoona.

Against the Hawks, the Lions hit .415 for the entire match thanks to just one error in the first and fourth sets. Kocher had a .548 hitting percentage along with six digs and three blocks. Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) was the third player with double-digit kills with 10. Setter Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) posted 38 assists on 59 kills.

In the nightcap, Steele hit .429 behind 16 kills and Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) led with 16 digs, nine kills, two assists and one ace.

Kocher added 13 kills, while Derek Polishen (Plum, PA/Plum) added 15 digs in the win.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at D'Youville. Match starts at 7p.m.
