Penn State Behrend senior Natalie Engel (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) and junior Rachel Richardson (Moon Township, PA/Moon Area) have been named to the AMCC all-conference team for their efforts this season. This is the first time for both Engel and Richardson to be honored.

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team closed out the 2008-09 season with a 69-60 loss to Medaille in the AMCC Tournament on Tuesday, February 24, in the Junker Center. Medaille, winners of three straight AMCC regular season and conference tournament titles, entered as the fifth seed and nudged the Behrend Lions by nine. Behrend had reached the AMCC semifinals for eleven straight seasons, every season since the league began, and entered Tuesday's night's game with an unblemished 6-0 mark at home in 2009.
Penn State Behrend's Rachel Richardson (Moon Township/Moon Area) has been named the AMCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for February 23. The junior scored 17 points on February 21 in a win against Pitt-Bradford in the final game of the regular season. Behrend's 84-74 win clinched the #4 seed for the AMCC Tournament and set up a first round home game against Medaille for the Behrend Lions.

The Behrend Lions entered the Junker Center fighting for the #4 seed in the upcoming AMCC tournament, and defeated conference foe Pitt-Bradford 84-74 on senior night. A large crowd of 734 fans participating in the Pink Zone breast cancer awareness program witnessed an exciting second-half comeback by the blue and white to earn the #4 seed for the conference tournament.

This Saturday, February 21 the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team is sponsoring a Pink Zone initiative to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Pink Zone T-shirts will be sold during the games in the Junker Center, donations will be accepted at the door, and fans are encouraged to wear pink articles of clothing. All proceeds from the event will go to the Erie unit of the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

This Saturday, February 21 the Penn State Behrend athletic department is offering reduced ticket prices for the men's and women's basketball games. Entry to the games on "Economic Stimulus" Night will cost fans just $1 (Penn State Behrend students get in free). The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team will face Pitt-Bradford in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off with the men's game to follow at about 8:00 p.m.

The 2008-09 men's and women's basketball teams are nationally ranked among the top in Division III hoops. Both teams have enjoyed successful seasons so far and are looking to finish the season strong. Steals are hard to come by in a basketball game, but to the Behrend women's team, they seem to come pretty easy. In Division III basketball, they are currently number second in team steals at 17.0 spg. In the AMCC, they are ranked number one with almost three more steals per game than any of the other AMCC opponents.

Penn State Behrend women's basketball earned a hard fought 82-72 victory over Penn State Altoona in a key AMCC contest on Saturday, February 7 in front of 323 fans at the Junker Center. The Behrend Lions made several big plays down the stretch to snatch the win after both teams battled in a game that was close for most of the second half.

Penn State Behrend women's basketball standout Natalie Engel (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Academic First-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Behrend Lions entered the day at 7-5 in conference play looking to move up in the AMCC ranks and did just that improving to 10-9 overall and 8-5 in league play after rolling to an 88-16 win over the visiting Hilbert Hawks.

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team captured a one-point win over Frostburg State, on Saturday, January 24 at home in the Junker Center by a score of 62-61.

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team dropped league opponent La Roche, 65-50, on Thursday, January 22 at home in the Junker Center.

What is your general view for how the season has started so far? As a team we are playing a bit inconsistent. Mainly because of our youth and perhaps lack of game experience. As the season progresses I expect us to not only improve individually but also as a team. We have made a lot of adjustments this year to our personnel and it has been a learning curve for everyone. I genuinely like my team and feel we have very good chemistry so it is really a matter of consistency now.

On Saturday, January 17, the Behrend Lions and Franciscan University tangled for the first time in history. The Lady Barons struggled early as Behrend pushed the tempo and raced to a 21-0 lead through the first eight minutes of the game.

On Wednesday, January 14, the Penn State Behrend Lions (5-7, 3-3) hosted the Medaille Mavericks for their first league contest of the second half and earned the 12 point win.

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team dropped a 79-64 decision to visiting Pitt-Greensburg in an AMCC contest on Saturday, December 13 at the Junker Center in front of 212 fans.
