Donohue Nets Game Winner at Case Western

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Amanda Donohue (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) notched her first game-winning goal of her career to help the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Case Western Reserve 1-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

Donohue struck gold in the 76th minute off a pass from Sami Lowry (Pittsburgh, PA/Pine-Richland) to give the Lions (2-1) their first win on the road this season. Lowry threw the ball into Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) down by the endline. Oberlander had a one-touch pass to Lowry and she crossed it to Donohue, who scored from 15-yards out with a one-touch volley shot for the lone goal of the game. Oberlander also gets credit for an assist on the play.

Senior goalkeeper Ania Gorski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) was instrumental in keeping the Spartans (2-1) off the scoreboard. She made five saves on 19 shots taken for her first collegiate shutout.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Lions hold a 9-7 lead in shots, Case Western turned up its offensive chances for a 12-3 shot advantage in the final 45 minutes.

Coming off the bench in the 68th minute, Donohue finished the game winner less than 10 minutes later on her second shot of the game.

Behrend returns to action on Friday at the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic. The Lions face Oswego at 1 p.m.
