Erie, PA.- The Penn State Behrend men and women cross country teams will host their annual invitational Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

The invitational will host the region’s best talent, a pair of USTFCCCA nationally ranked Division III teams in Mount Union (20) and Case Western Reserve (26). The Raiders captured the men’s team title in 2009, while California (Pa.) won the women’s crown last year.

Last year, the men finished third out of 15 teams with the help of Kevin Gorny leading all Lions in the 8k race with a time of 26:56, good enough to place him ninth overall. The women placed second in a field of 12 teams with Emily Berry paving the way for Behrend logging a time of 24:40 in the 5k race finishing sixth overall.

This weekend both teams will rely heavily on their freshman class after their impressive debut at the Buffalo State Invitational. Carl Kallgren and Mike Smolinske finished second and third place among the team. On the woman’s side freshman Katie Spade, Haley Hughes and Catie Bertges all finished in the Lions top 10 runners.
