Oberlin, OH – The Penn State Behrend men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday with the men placing 25th out of 31 teams and the women finishing in 14th place out of 24 teams.

For the women Case Western Reserve finished first with a team total of 83 points, followed by Rhodes (117), Grove City (160), Elizabethtown (167) and Carnegie Mellon (179). Berhend crossed the line with a team average of 23:58 to give the Lions 390 points.

On the men’s side was Allegheny with a team average of 25:22 and an Invitational low 66 points. Allegheny was followed by Elizabethtown (130), Carnegie Mellon (174), Albion (188) and Wabash (193) in the 8K race.

Setting the pace for the women was Katie Spade running the 6K course in 22:55 and placing 24th overall. Next to cross the line for the Lions were Catie Bertges and Liz Keller posting times of 23:53 and 24:04 while placing 76th and 82nd respectively. Rounding out the Top Five Behrend finishers were Haley Hughes and Emily Berry who clocked times of 24:24 and 24:32. Joanna Johnson from Oberlin took first place with an astonishing time of 21:17, no woman would come within 40 seconds of her mark.

Leading the way for the men was Denny Lydon taking 113th place out of 284 runners with a time of 27:00. Justin Dipente (27:03) ran the second best time for Behrend and finished 115th overall. Third, fourth and fifth place performers for the Lions were Carl Kallgren, Dan Mello and Alex Myers who clocked in 27:23, 27:47 and 28:10 respectively. St. Thomas’s Ben Sathre had a time of 24:25 to pace all runners and take home the first place medal.

The Behrend cross country program will head to Pittsburgh for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference men’s and women’s championships Saturday October 30 at 11 a.m.
