Lions Compete at Mideast Pre-Regional

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women’s cross country team ran to a ninth-place finish in the 6K Carnegie Mellon Mideast Pre-Regional Race on Saturday at Cooper’s Lake in Slippery Rock, Pa.

Oberlin’s Joanna Johnson was the top runner out of a group of 178 to lead the Yeowomen to first place. Case Western came in second and Grove City was third overall. The Lions were led by Katie Spade, who clocked in at 24:53 despite losing her shoe during the meet.  Spade ranked 39th overall.

The second finisher on the team and 48th overall was freshman Catie Bertges with a time of 25:17. The next three runners occupied the 55th-57th place. Jenna Fatica led with a time of 25:30 for 55th, while Elizabeth Keller clocked in three seconds later and Haley Hughes was the third in 25:38 for 57th.

Senior Emily Berry tallied a time of 25:50 for 62nd place and sixth for the Lions. Kaitlynn Patterson was the seventh runner to count and finished in 26:26 for 68th.

Behrend returns to action next Saturday at Carnegie Mellon. Meet time is 11 a.m.
