Lions Suffer First Conference Defeat

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Jerell Figueroa scored a game-high 19 points to lead Pitt-Greensburg past the Penn State Behrend men's basketball team 80-67 Sunday afternoon. Playing on back-to-back days, the Lions (11-2, 5-1 AMCC) snapped their four-game winning streak and suffered their first defeat in conference play this season.

Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) paced Behrend with 16 points and snatched three steals in the losing effort. Wes Davic (Grafton, OH/Midview) continued his strong play finishing just shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Trailing 55-45 at the 12:23 mark in the second half, the Lions clawed their way to a three point deficit after a Davic layup to cut the lead to 60-57 with 6:07 remaining. Pitt-Greensburg (5-8, 5-1 AMCC) scored 20 points in the final six minutes to hand Behrend their first conference loss.

Pitt-Greensburg shot 31-for-56 from the field (55.4%) and drained 10 three-pointers in the game. The Bobcats also won the battle of the benches getting 36 bench points as opposed to nine for the Lions.

Nick DeLisio (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) turned in a solid performance scoring 14 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Zane Hackett (Brookville, PA/Brookville) notched his tenth double-digit scoring performance of the season adding 12 points and four rebounds.

Behrend will look to rebound Wednesday when they travel to Medaille. Medaille also sports a 5-1 AMCC record and both teams are tied for first place in the conference. Opening tip comes at 8 p.m.
