Men's Basketball Claims Top Seed for ECAC South Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team claimed the No. 1 seed for the 2015 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament, announced on Monday. 

The tournament is an eight-team field with a quarterfinal round followed by a semifinal and championship rounds. Top-seeded Lions (23-3) will host No. 8 Bethany (17-10) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Junker Center.

The winner between Behrend and the Bison will be the host for the semifinal and championship games, slated for Saturday and Sunday.

The Lions will be making their 13th appearance in the ECAC tournament, last capturing the South Region title in 2010. Behrend won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) regular-season title and earned a first-round bye in the conference tournament. The Lions were upset by No. 4 Hilbert in the semifinals, 64-59. Bethany also lost in their conference semifinal game, falling to Waynesburg 70-57.

The Lions and Bison will be meeting for the 23rd time since the all-time series began in 1985-86. Behrend enters the contest with a 10-game winning streak against Bethany for an 18-4 overall record. Last year, the Lions defeated Bethany 77-66 on Dec. 29. The Bison's last win was a 72-71 victory back in 1993-94.

No. 6 Hood (14-12) at No. 3 Waynesburg (18-10) – TBD

No. 5 Arcadia (14-12) at No. 4 DeSales (17-9) – TBD

 

Semifinals – Saturday, March 7 at Behrend or Bethany

No. 1 Penn State Behrend/No. 8 Bethany winner vs. No. 4 DeSales/No. 5 Arcadia winner – 4 p.m.

No. 2 Stevenson/No. 7 McDaniel winner vs. No. 3 Waynesburg/No. 6 Hood – 7 p.m.

 

Championship – Sunday, March 8 at Behrend or Bethany

Two Semifinal Winners – 2 p.m.
