Behrend Swimming and Diving in Third Place at AMCC-Empire Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in third place after day one of the 2023 Allegheny Empire Championships hosted by Nazareth College at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday night.  

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Alfred State (136), 2. Alfred (118), 3. Penn State Behrend (112), 4. Hartwick (106), 5. Nazareth (98), 6. Penn State Altoona (80), 7. Utica (62), 8. Pitt-Bradford (40)

Noteworthy:

* The Behrend Lions accumulated 112 points to rank third in the combined standings and are second among the AMCC teams
* The Lions competed in two relays on the night, taking second in the 800 yard freestyle relay
Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin), Tim Compton (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), Jax Abele (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Shane Rupert (Richland Township, PA/Pine-Richland) combined a time of 7:02.81
* The time collected silver and is the ninth-best time in program history for the 800 free relay
* The 200 medley relay came in third place overall
* Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA/Hershey), Will Perham (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair), Compton and Dan Tanaskovic (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) touched in 1:35.29

* Behrend returns to the water tomorrow for day two of the AMCC Empire Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
