Mason Dixon Championships; Day Two Wrap Up

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Mason Dixon Championships on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions placed third out of nine teams competing in the two-day event.

Behrend got off to a good start in the field events.  Stephanie Stoughton (Chicora, PA/Karns City) placed fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 34.93m.  Katie Monoskey (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) was close behind in fifth place at 34.36m.

In the javelin throw, the Lions had two athletes place in the top-10.  April McDermott (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) took fifth place after hitting 31.30m.  Stoughton placed sixth at 31.18m.

Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) continued to have a strong season in the pole vault.  Harwood brought home second place with a height of 3.06m.  Nicole Teribery (Bradford, PA/Bradford) took fourth place after clearing 2.91m.  Angela Sweeney (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) also cleared 2.91m for a fifth place finish.

Back on the track, the Lions got top-two finishes from three athletes.  Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) won the 5000m run with a time of 18:40.85.  In the 3000m steeplechase, Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) took second at 11:59.33.

Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) had a busy day for Behrend.  Spade took second in both the 1500m run and the 800m run.  She crossed the finish line in 4:53.91 in the 1500m run and 2:21.12 in the 800m run.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday at the Allegheny Qualifier in Meadville.
