Women's Water Polo Competes Against Claremont

ORANGE, Ca. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team traveled to Orange, California to face-off against Claremont University, falling 13-5 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (0-3) got off to a rocky start against the Panthers (4-7), trailing 5-0 after the first period and a half. At the 4:51 mark in the second quarter, JoJo Gager (Holland, MI/West Ottawa) was able to get Behrend on the board after scoring her second goal of the season for the squad.

The Panthers tallied two more goals before halftime to hold a 7-1 lead after two quarters.

In the third period, Devon Van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford) and Remy de Guzman (Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills) each notched goals for the Lions. Rensburg also added four steals in the match, while Guzman registered a second goal in the fourth quarter along with three assists. Claremont edged Behrend 4-2 in the third.

At the 6:43 mark in the fourth period, Carson Hagood (Orlando, FL/Bishop Moore Catholic) recorded her first goal of the season for Behrend. Also in the game, Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) made three steals, and Allison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford) dished out two assists.

In net for the Lions, Holly Rae Hanson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/ Rancho Cucamonga) registered eight saves in the tough loss. Claremont outshot Behrend 26-19 in the game.

The Lions return to action on their California road trip Monday when they play Fresno Pacific and Occidental. Game time is 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST (5 p.m. and 8 p.m. PST).
