Macalester Defeats Women's Water Polo

MONMOUTH, Il. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to No. 9 Macalester 14-1 on the final day of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional Tournament Sunday morning.

Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) scored the lone goal for the Lions (6-9) against the Scots (11-4).

Macalester started the game strong, scoring the game's first goal just 43 seconds into the match. The Scots tallied the first nine goals of the game, scoring five in the first period then adding four more in the second quarter.

In the closing seconds of the second quarter, Wood took a shot, with eight seconds on the clock, that found the back of the net, getting the Lions on the board.

The second half was all Macalester. They recorded five more goals throughout the rest of the game to end the score 14-1.

Alison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford) made three steals in the game while Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) tallied two steals herself. Horn and Wood also registered two drawn kickouts each.

The Lions will close the regular season out this Thursday when the face-off against Mercyhurst. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
