Women's Water Polo Gets Revenge on Senior Night

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team bounced back in the win column after getting revenge against Grove City, picking up a 17-10 victory on senior night.

In this matchup, Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) and Devon Van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford) combined for more goals (12) than the entire Wolverines (2-3) team (10).

The Lions (4-6) got the firepower going early in this match. In the opening 1:36 of the game, Rensburg buried the first goal of the match to get Behrend on the board. From there, Wood took control. She notched three first-quarter goals to give the Lions a comfortable 5-0 lead. However, Grove City's Heidi Schmidt heaved up a shot as time was expiring that found its way in the back of the net to get the Wolverines on the board.

On the first possession of the second period, Rensburg was back at it, adding her second goal of the contest. She went on to score a hat-trick in the second quarter to give the Lions a solid 9-4 lead heading into halftime.

Grove City outscored Behrend in the third period 3-2, but the Lions bounced back to tally six fourth-quarter goals. Wood notched three second-half goals, while Rensburg registered two.

In addition to Wood and Rensburg's six-goal performance each, Remy De Guzman (Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills) buried two goals while Angela Laier (Lansing, MI/Holt) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) each recorded one goal.

Horn is just four goals shy of setting a new Penn State Behrend school record for most career goals.

Behrend will look to continue its firepower this Sunday when they travel to Washington, PA to battle against Washington & Jefferson and Caltech. The games are set to begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
