Four Named AMCC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend junior pitcher Thomas Zbezinski (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland), freshman outfielder Anthony Slate (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell), senior tennis player Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) and senior runner Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) were all named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week.

Zbezinski is earning AMCC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week. The starting hurler threw a six-hit complete game shutout in a 5-0 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. Zbezinski fanned eight batters in seven innings of work to remain undefeated on the mound at 2-0 this season.

Slate was named the AMCC Baseball Player of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career. The newcomer hit .467 in four games and helped the Lions open conference play with a pair of wins. Slate knocked in seven hits and scored five runs, while slugging .600 for the week. He ripped a pair of doubles and tallied 10 putouts with one assist.

Colvin, the men's tennis AMCC Player of the Week, went undefeated in AMCC action this week and helped the Lions defeat Medaille on Saturday. The senior lost his first set at No. 2 singles and bounced back to win 6-0, 10-5 in a super tiebreaker. Colvin also teamed up with Kyle Thomas (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) for an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles.

Carr is earning her final AMCC Runner of the Week award. The senior cross-country runner won her third AMCC Individual Championship on Sunday, taking first with a time of 24:18.88 for the 5K race. She also won the championship in 2017 and 2019. Carr also helped the Lions claim the AMCC Invitational Title and earned All-Conference honors.
