Lions Blanked in Doubleheader Action

FORT PIERCE, Fl. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team opened their spring training trip Sunday, falling twice to Misericordia, 1-0 and 7-0.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) pitched near flawless in game one of the doubleheader. While striking out only one batter, Rohrer kept the Cougars (2-2) off balance throughout the duration of the game. The senior righty pitched a complete game and managed to only surrender two hits.

After a scoreless three and a half innings, Misericordia broke things open in the fourth. Courgars designated hitter Santo Guinta drove a high fastball to bring around Tyler Holzapfel, who had reached base on a walk and then stole second to get into scoring postion.

Behrend threatened in the top half of the seventh after Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and John Brittner's (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) back-to-back singles put two on with only one out. However, the Lions rally was cut short when Miseracordia turned a 5-3 double play to end the game.

In game two, Cougar's starter Tim Burek pitched a complete game one-hitter to hinder the Lions offense. He managed to strike out seven and gave up no walks.

Misericordia platted two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth and seventh to close out the scoring.

Behrend's lone hit came in the first inning off the bat of Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny)

The Lions are back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Immaculata.
