Baseball Sweeps Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team picked up a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) victories Wednesday afternoon, defeating Pitt-Bradford 6-1 and 2-1.

The Lions (15-10) are now at the halfway point of their conference schedule, posting a 7-1 record to hold second place.

Benjamin Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin Regional) had two sacrifice bunts in game, both leading to runs being scored to help Behrend complete the sweep.

With the score tied at 1-all in the bottom of the eighth, Ramey moved Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) to third with a bunt down the first base line. Murray started the inning with a single and then stole second. Brandon Bergstrom's (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) clutch hit through the middle scored Murray which led to being the game-winning run.

Bergstrom recorded both RBIs in the game, picking up a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game. He finished the day going 2-for-6 from the plate and had four RBIs.

Current AMCC Pitcher of the Week Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) tossed a complete game seven-hitter to add his fourth win of the season.

In game one, the Lions exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to help break a 1-all tie and pull away from the Panthers (8-16, 3-3 AMCC). Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) got the inning going with a double to left and then swiped his 13th bag of the season to reach third. He advanced home on an error by the Bradford shortstop.

Later in the inning, David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring another Behrend run. Murray then singled and two batters later, Bergstrom scored two runs on a single of his own.

Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) added his fourth win of the season on the bump for the Lions. The sophomore lefty got stronger as the progressed and never allowed more than one hit per inning. He finished the game with five strikouts over a complete game seven innings of work.

Behrend will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
