Lions Sweep Elizabethtown

FORT PIERCE, Fl. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team picked up their first sweep of the season Friday afternoon, stealing two wins from Elizabethtown, 7-5 and 5-3.

With the pair of wins, the Lions (6-5) move above .500 and extend their winning streak to six in a row.

In game one, Behrend scored three runs in each of the third and fourth innings to power past a Blue Jays (7-5) early 3-0 lead.

Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA, North Allegheny) got the offense going for Behrend with a one out double in the top of the third. Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) then scored Bergstrom with a double of his own.

With two outs, David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Senton-La Salle) ripped a single to score Hamm. Boehme eventually came around to score and tie the game at 3-all.

The next inning, Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) scored Justin Foreman (Oakdale, South Fayette) and Jonathan Wilson (Westfield, NY/Westfield) on a double and then came around to score a few batters later on an error by the shortstop.

Bergstrom picked up his third hit of the game in the sixth to score bring in the final Lions run.

Jack Herzing (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic) got the win after pitching six innings and striking out nine. Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertwon) earned the save. 

Hamm finished the game 2-for-4 while Bergstrom tallied three hits in his four at bats.

In game two, The Blue Jays jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring all of their runs in the first inning. Behrend would respond with two of their own in the bottom of the first

Bergstom led off with a triple and then scored on a double by Sada. Sada then crossed home on a Bohman triple.

The Lions added three more in the third to take the lead and make it a 5-3 game. Sada and Boehme started the innng off with back to back singles and then scored on consecutive hits from Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Foreman. McGuire scored on Foreman's double.

Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) pitched five innings and struck out seven to pick up the win. Boehme came in the seventh to earn the save.

Sada finished the game going 3-for-3 from the dish.

Behrend will finish their spring training trip tomorrow in a single game against Drew beginning at 9:30 a.m.
