School Records Fall as Behrend Track & Field Competes at Cornell Invitational

The Penn State Behrend track and field teams competed at the Cornell University Invitational on Saturday, February 13 and the blue and white saw a number of athletes produce significant results.  Three new school records were set, and a fourth school record was tied on a day in which Behrend athletes faced tremendous competition from athletes in Division I, II, and III programs. 

For the women, Jenna Fatica (Erie/Villa Maria) took sixth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.73, and had the second best time by a Division III athlete in the event. 

Dana Turley (Sarver/Freeport) finished in fourteenth place in the 60 meter hurdles, with a time of 10.19 seconds, which set a new Behrend record. 

Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) came in at 28.51 seconds in the 200 meter dash to finish in sixteenth place.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Fatica, Turley, Harwood, and Angela Sweeney (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) finished in fourth place with a time of 4:23.18.

On the men's side, Mike Stark (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) set a new Behrend record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.65 seconds, good for a fourth place finish in the event and the second-best time among Division III athletes.  Stark also tied a Behrend record in the pole vault, clearing 14' 5.25" which earned a seventh place finish in that event.

Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) took fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 22' 1.75" and cleared 6' 0.50" in the high jump to finish in eighth place.

John Bowman (Clearfield/Clearfield Area) placed ninteenth in the weight throw with a heave of 42' 2.75" which set a new Behrend record. 

Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin) ran a time of 52.51 seconds in the 400 meter dash, good for an eighth place finish.

Justin DiPenti (Warren/Warren) clocked in at 4:36.16 in the mile run, finishing in twelfth place.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Telin, Craig Webb (Johnstown/Richland), Shane Cyphert (North East/North East), and Mike Johnson (Clearfield/Clearfield Area) came in at 3:33.33 which was good for fourth place.

The Penn State Behrend track and field teams next return to Ohio, for the Mt. Union Invitational on Saturday, February 20, followed by a March 6 trip to Maryland to compete in the Salisbury Invitational.
