Behrend Men's Track & Field Wins Second Straight Meet; Women Finish Second

The Penn State Behrend track and field teams competed on April 17 at the Westminster Invitational, with the men capturing first place while the women finished second.  The men racked up 229 team points to cruise past the other five competing men's teams, while the women earned 120.5 points to finish second of eight teams. 

Mandy Wehrle (Rossiter/Punxsutawney) was a double-winner, dominating both the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash.  The junior ran the 200 meter dash in 26.83 seconds and went 1:01.85 in the 400 meter event.  Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) took the pole vault by clearing 2.95 meters, while Katie Monoskey (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) was first in the shot with a toss of 10.30 meters.

Other standouts on the women's side included Lauren Pecor (Mars/Mars) who took second in the 10,000 meter run, Dana Turley (Sarver/Freeport) who took second in the 400 meter hurdles, Meghan Kronenwetter (St. Mary's/Elk County Catholic) who was third in the 1500 meter run, Katie White (Warren/Warren) who was third in the javelin, and Lexy Weissinger (Erie/McDowell) who was third in the high jump.

Craig Webb (Johnstown/Richland) won the 100 meter dash and finished second in the 200 meter dash.  Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.67 seconds and was second in the 400 meter hurdles.  Steel Flynn (Butler/Butler) won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:11.35, while teammate Denny Kang (South Park/South Park) cleared 4.76 meters for a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault.  Ronson Mazany dominated the jumping events, winning the high jump (1.85 meters), long jump (6.77 meters), and triple jump (13.41 meters).  

The men's team had a number of other outstanding performances as Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin) was second in the 400 meter dash, Mike Stark (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) was second in the 110 meter hurdles, Michael Johnson (Clearfield/Clearfield) was second in the high jump, Eston Winn (Erie/McDowell) was second in the pole vault, and Evern Lee (Bronx, NY/Wings Academy) was second in the triple jump. 

Behrend track & field next competes on April 24 at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational followed by the Mason Dixon conference championships April 30-May 1 at Salisbury.
