Pell Takes Control at Mt. Union

ALLIANCE, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union Sunday.

Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) qualified for ECAC's in the 60m hurdles, 200m dash, and 400m dash at today's meet. She recorded second place finishes in the 200m and 400m dash, running times of 27.16 and 1:00.76, respectively. Pell posted a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles with a final time of 9.67. She now has qualified for four individual events for the ECAC championships.

Pell, Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan), Gabriella Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), and Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knock) competed in the 4x200 relay and finished with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:50.88, good enough for third place. Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area) earned a first place finish, and ECAC qualifying time of 19:03.82 in the 5000k run.

Jenna Shelton (Cabot, PA/Knoch) and Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) both qualified for the ECAC championships in the 1000m run. Shelton crossed the line at 3:09.76 in second place, while Sargent tallied a fifth place finish at 3:16.92.

Yenchik recorded another ECAC qualifying mark in the pole vault at a height of 3.46m, finishing in fourth place. Loeffler, Maddie Werner (Pittsburgh, PA/Bethel Park), and Brianna Keith (Erie, PA/McDowell) also earned Top 10 finishes in the pole vault. Loeffler finished in sixth place at a height of 3.01 while Warner and Keith leaped at a height of 2.71m for eighth place finishes.

Carlsson continued on the day to compete in the 500 dash. She recorded a third place finish with a final time of 1:25.72. Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) took ninth in the one mile, crossing the line at 5:36.66.

In the 1600 relay, Loeffler, Shelton, Carlsson, Stoncek (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills), Kelley Giles (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), and Sierra Long (Northeast, PA/Northeast) ran a time of 4:24.66 for a fifth place finish.

Myeisha Sanders (Erie, PA/East) participated in the weight throw, where she placed 11th. She tossed her third and final throw 11.17m.

The Lions return to the track at Tiffin Saturday with an 11 a.m. start.
