The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team is set to host
the Behrend Invitational this Friday and Saturday, September 5 and
6. Traveling to Behrend to compete in the Junker Center will
be Division III teams Fredonia and D'Youville as well as the NAIA
teams from Notre Dame College and Daemen.
The blue and white (3-1) open the tournament at 3:30 p.m. on Friday
afternoon versus D'Youville.
Last weekend the Behrend Lions won three of four matches at the
Thomas More Invitational. Behrend opened the tournament with
a 3-0 victory over Earlham before falling to host Thomas More in
three games. Behrend picked up two wins on the second day of
the tournament, first with a 3-2 victory over St. Mary's and then
with a 3-1 win over Kenyon.
Junior setter Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland) was
named to the all-tournament team after dishing 123 assists and
recording 29 digs in 15 sets played. Junior middle hitter
Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) led the offense with 45 kills
and also racked up 11 blocks. Senior defensive specialist
Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) finished the
tournament with a team-high 74 digs. In the first match of
the season against Earlham, Hennessy broke the school's career digs
record. The record was held by former standout Danielle Bemis
who tallied 1,776 digs in her career. Hennessy enters the
Behrend Invitational with 1,846 career digs and is looking to lead
the defensive effort this weekend.
