The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team opened the 2008 AMCC league season with a 3-1 win over the visiting La Roche Redhawks.
The Behrend Lions claimed game one 25-14, and followed with a 22-25 loss, 25-22 and 26-24 wins. Behrend is now 1-0 in league play.
Sophomore Aubry Regan (Edinboro/General McLane) contributed 11 kills while Lauren Dalton (Cochranton/Cochraqnton) pounded 15 kills. Sheila Odgen (Grove City/Grove City) led the Behrend Lion offense with 18 kills.
In the second match-up of the tri-match Thiel handled La Roche in straight sets.
In Behrend's second match of the day, they handled Thiel 3-0. The Behrend Lions won 25-22, 26-24, 25-18. The blue and white improve to 11-5 on the season. Ogden again led the offense with 13 kills and also had six blocks. Freshman Liz Emerick (Hopewell/Hopewell) controlled the defense with 25 digs, while freshman Stef Kelley (Moon Township/Moon) tallied 13 digs and four service aces. Junior Brooke Gallentine (Mount Pleasant/Southmoreland) ran the offense dishing out a combined 59 assists in the two matches on the day.
Next up for the blue and white will be a Tuesday night match against Fredonia State. The game will be broadcast by Image Sports starting at 7:00 p.m. Earlier this fall, Behrend downed the Blue Devils 3-0.
