Behrend Lions Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Behrend Invitational

The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team opened its tournament on the Junker Center court with a convincing 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-20) win over the D'Youville Spartans.

Junior middle hitter Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) had nine kills, while Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) had seven kills and nine digs. Also, junior setter Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland) dished out 26 assists.

We are happy to be playing at home for the first time this year," said Head Coach Phil Pisano. "We are pleased to play well and get a win to begin our tournament."

In the second match of the day, Behrend battled Notre Dame (OH). The blue and white lost a tough match 1-3 (14-25, 25-13, 17-25, 18-25) in four sets.

Senior defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) added to her school record of digs with 25 against the Falcons. She also added four aces in the match.  Gallentine added 28 assists and five kills. 

Behrend entered the day with a 3-1 mark and now stand at an impressive 4-2 through six games.

Prior to Friday's game one, Hennessy was honored in front of 150 fans. Hennessy broke the school's career digs record.  The record was held by former standout Danielle Bemis who tallied 1,776 digs in her career.  Hennessy now has registered 1,880 career digs after earning 34 on Friday.

On day two of the Behrend Lions Tournament, the blue and white will play Daemen (NY) at 10:30 a.m. D'Youville matches up against Fredonia and Daemen versus Notre Dame is at 12:30 p.m. The tournament concludes with Behrend against Fredonia and D'Youville versus Notre Dame at 2:30 p.m.
