The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team opened the second day of the Behrend Invitational with a 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-14, 20-25, 15-12) victory over the Daemen College Wildcats.
Sophomore Aubry Regan(Edinboro/General McLane) contributed ten kills and three blocks in the victory. Sophomore Danielle Woods(Pittsburgh/Baldwin) lead the defensive effort with 24 digs. Freshman Liz Emerick(Hopewell/Hopewell) chipped in with 11 digs and five aces.
In the second match of the day, Behrend handled Fredonia State. The blue and white took the match 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17). This gave the blue and white a 3-1 record for the tournament.
Freshman Stef Kelley (Moon Township/Moon) pounded out nine kills to go with 13 digs. Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) collected a team high 24 digs. Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/ Southmoreland) ran the offense handing out 33 assists. Sheila Odgen (Grove City/Grove City) also smashed nine kills and for her efforts this weekend was named to the all-tournament team.
Tournament Champion Notre Dame College went 4-0 on the weekend. Notre Dame was lead by tournament MVP Katie Verhoff. The junior setter led the Falcons to the undefeated weekend. Also named to the all-tournament team was Katie Barbis from Notre Dame College. Rounding out the all-tournament team, from Behrend Sheila Odgen, from Daemen College Rachael Bowler, from Fredonia State Amy Bertrando, and from D'Youville Falicia Golden.
Behrend entered the day with a 4-2 record. The blue and
white improve to 6-2 on the year. The Behrend Lions will be
back in action on September 9th at Grove City. They will
return to the Junker Center three weeks later when they host a
tri-match between La Roche and Thiel on September 27.
