Vetica Named AMCC Golfer of the Year; Four Earn All-AMCC Honors

ERIE, Pa. – Sophomore Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) has been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men's Golfer of the Year while Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) is the Newcomer of the Year, just two of four Penn State Behrend golfers recognized on the 2012 All-Conference Team.

Director of Athletics and interim head golf coach, Brian Streeter, was also named Co-Coach of the Year for leading the Lions to their second straight AMCC Championship.

In addition to being Golfer of the Year, Vetica was a First-Team All-AMCC choice. He won the individual medalist honors at the conference championship, placing first with a two-day score of 146. Vetica carded his lowest round of 72 on the first day of the AMCC Tournament and averaged 77.7 for the season. He also finished in the Top 5 in five out of eight events.

VanDamia was selected to the All-Conference second team after finishing tied for third at the AMCC Championships (155). He averaged an 80.1 for eight rounds, placing in the Top 10 six times. His second day score of 73 at the conference tournament was his best round this season.

Zack Polanski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) is earning his first nod on the All-AMCC first-team after being chosen to the second team in 2010. The senior led the team with a 77.3 stroke average for eight rounds and won three invitatinoals. Polanski tied VanDamia at the AMCC Championships for third place overall with a score of 155 (82-73). He carded his best round of 72 at the Penn State Behrend Invitational at the Peek N' Peak on Sept. 20.

Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) is the fourth golfer to be named to the All-Conference team, earning second-team honors.  The sophomore finished sixth at the conference championships (160). Klein shot in the 70's in four out of six rounds, averaging 78.3 for the season.  

Behrend returns in the spring and will represent the conference at the NCAA Championships May 14-17 in Destin, Florida.
