Golfers Take Fifth at Edward Jones Shootout

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team finished tied for fifth out of seven with a two-day score of 630, shooting a 314 this afternoon at the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by Carnegie Mellon.

The Lions took two strokes off their first-day score of 316 to tie Thiel for fifth place. Point Park remained out in front to win the invitational with a 600 total, while Allegheny was 17 strokes better today to move into second overall with a 601.

Zach Polanski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) was the lone Behrend golfer in the Top 10. He ended tied for seventh thanks to a two-day total of 152, after scoring a 77 for the course today.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) earned a 79 yesterday and took a stroke off to card a 78 for a 157 score to tie for 21st. Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) finished tied for 33rd with a 162 total. Klein managed an 82 and VanDamia was two strokes better with an 80.

Zach Berkstresser (Waynesburg, PA/Jefferson Morgan) improved six strokes and moved up to 37th place overall with a 164 to round out the top five golfers for the Lions.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at the Thiel Invitational.
