VanDamia Leads Golf to Behrend Invitational Win

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) finished second overall with a team-low score of 74 to help the Penn State Behrend men's golf team win their own invitational held at the Lake View Country Club in North East, Pa.

The Lions carded a 309 to edge Grove City by six strokes for the win. VanDamia tied for first with Christian Locher (Grove City), but lost the tiebreaker on the first hole to earn runner-up honors. VanDamia is joined by Roman Klaric (Hermitage, PA/West Middlesex) and Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) in the Top 10.

VanDamia tallied a 37 on both the front and back holes for his second-best total of the fall season. Klaric tied for fourth overall with a 77. He had a 41 on the front nine, before recording a team-best 36 on the back.

Vetica came in tied for sixth overall after shooting a 78 on the day. The junior matched VanDamia on the front (37) and added a 41 for the last nine holes.

Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) playing at his hometown course, tied for 11th overall. He fired a 41 and 39 for a score of 80. Daniel Corbin (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) was the fifth golfer in the team and tied for 35th overall (93).

Behrend had two individuals competing, Brad Cypher (Evans City, PA/Seneca Valley) and Nathan Marzka (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). Cypher and Marzka were one stroke a part, with a 92 and 93, respectively.

The Lions' only female golfer Lisa Giancola shot a 106 for the par 72 course.

The win marks the fourth out of five invitationals for Behrend this season.
