Lions in Lead After Day One at AMCC Championships

MIDDLESEX , Pa. – Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) and Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) tied for second overall with a 73 on the first day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Sunday at the Oak Tree Country Club.

The Lions currently sit in first place out of nine teams with a first-round score of 303, tying the lowest score Behrend has registered at a conference championship.  Pitt-Bradford is in second with a 310 total and Pitt-Greensburg sits in third place (315).

Not only did Vetica and VanDamia shoot in the 70's and one over par, but Roman Klaric (Hermitage, PA/West Middlesex) was one stroke off with a 74 for the beginning round and tie for fourth overall in a field of 43 golfers.

Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) was fourth on the team with an 83 and Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) posted an 85 to complete the Lions' top five.

Behrend is looking to become the third team in conference history to win three straight AMCC titles. The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final round of the championships.
