Lions Miss Cut at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, NC – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team ended with a two-day total of 633 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, North Carolina on Wednesday.

The Lions shot three strokes better than day one, but missed the final 15-team cut for the third round on Thursday. Behrend competed on the West Course yesterday and the East Course today, carding a 315 to finish +57 overall.

Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) led the Lions in the second round. He tallied a team-low 74 to finish two-over par for an overall score of 153 and good enough to tie for 90th.  Klein carded a 38 on the front and was even on the back.

After coming in third on the team after day one, Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) fought back to take a stroke off his first score to end with a 79 on the day. He tied for 135th place with a two-day total of 159.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) came out third on the team overall and tied for 168th place when combining his scores of 75-89 for a 164.  

Roman Klaric (Hermitage, PA/West Middlesex) birdied three holes on the day to finish nine-over par for an 81. His two-round total was 165 to place him tied at 173rd. Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) shaved seven strokes off his first round to also finish nine-over par for an 81. His combined score was a 169 for his first-ever postseason tournament.
