LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming & diving team built a big enough lead by winning the first nine out of 11 events to swim exhibition in the final four events and pull away with a 143-128 victory over St. Vincent on Saturday.

Brendan Lacey won two individual events for the Lions, touching in first in the 50 free (22.66) and 100 free (49.41). Three members of the winning 200 medley relay went on to also win individual events for Behrend. The team of Hunter Backentose, Clay Altemose, Ben Strunk and Everett Sargent won the relay in 1:42.71.

Backentose took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.11 to edge Altemose, who clocked in at 1:51.22. Altemose had the top time in the 200 back in 2:01.75, while Strunk picked up the victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.45). Strunk was .13 tenths of a second ahead of Jake Sherk (2:23.68).

Peter Blazak and Steve Torre also contributed to the early success for the Lions. Blazak broke the one-minute mark in the 100 back for first with a time of 59.85. Torre followed that with a first-place performance in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.93.

Diver Lucas Kachurick was victorious for the second straight week in both the one-meter and three-meter events. His one-meter score was 161.50 and the three-meter was 231.60.

The Lions get one day of rest before hosting Gannon on Monday night, beginning at 6 p.m.
