Four Records Broken at AMCC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team currently is in third place overall after the first day of three at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships held at Grove City College on Thursday.

The Lions are competing against the PAC teams for the winner of the 21st James E. Longnecker Invitational along with battling for the AMCC Championship. Behrend ranks first out of the four conference teams after day one with a score of xx

Out of six events on the evening, the Lions broke four records including two program and two meet records. Lucas Kachurick was the lone individual winner for Behrend, capturing the 1-meter diving competition with an AMCC meet record of 401.60 for 11 dives. His preliminary score was 24 points better with a 425.80 total.  

The second conference record set was in the final event, the 400 medley relay.  Clay Altemose led the team, followed by Ben Strunk, Dane Dombrosky and Torre as the final leg for a record time of 3:35.70 for third place. Three out of the four swimmers that made up the relay for the Lions broke this record last year.

Brendan Lacey reset his team record of 4:47.53 in the 500 free with a new time of 4:41.38 for second place overall.  Brian Mong placed seventh in the same event with a season-best time of 4:53.68.

Steve Torre broke his own team record in the 200 IM that he set back in December with a new time of 1:58.79 for seventh overall. Josh Weaver swam to an 11th place in 2:02.15.

The opening 200 free relay was one second away from breaking the team record. Torre, Weaver, Hunter Backenstose and Altemose made up the relay and touched in 1:27.06 for third place.

In the 50 free, Backentose tallied the top Behrend time in 22.45 for eighth place.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. and the finals are at 6 p.m.
