Lacey Breaks Team Record In Win Over Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa.  – Another Penn State Behrend men's swimming team record was shattered in a 111.5-86.5 win over Pitt-Bradford in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night.

Brendan Lacey, swimming the 1000 free for the first time this season, broke the team record by six seconds with a time of 10:11.77. Lacey finished in first place in the event, just one of seven events won by the Lions.

After Lacey won the 1000 free, Brian Mong won the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:49.37. Clay Altemose followed in second with a time of 1:52.34.

In the 50 free, Josh Weaver tallied the first of two wins with a time of 22.86. Hunter Backenstose and Jake Sherk were second and third in the event in 23.24 and 23.46, respectively.

The 200 IM was the final event before the 1m diving and after Steve Torre took second with a time of 2:01.93, Behrend jumped out to a 20-point lead that would not relinquish.

Lucas Kachurick was the lone competitor in the 1m diving and tallied a score of 229.15. The Lions claimed 1-2-3 in the next two events. Torre led the 100 free with a season-best 49.16, while Altemose was second again in 50.46 and Everett Sargent touched in 52.45 for third.

Weaver got win number two in the 100 backstroke, taking a second off his season-best time to break the one-minute mark (59.48). Eric Peirce was a close second in 59.89 and Andrew Opalewski took third (1:00.01).

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Mt. Union. Meet time is 1 p.m.
