Men's Swimming and Diving Downs Altoona, 88-64

ALTOONA, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming & diving team placed first and second in the first four events to built a big lead and defeat Penn State Altoona 88-64 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Sunday.

Competing for the first time in a month and against a conference opponent, the Lions did not waste any time pulling ahead for a comfortable lead to capture their first AMCC win of the season.

Five individuals claimed first place in their respective event, while the team of Clay Altemose, Everett Sargent, Chris Dunleavy and Andrew Opalewski were the top team to finish the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:54.75 to open the meet.

Dane Dombrosky followed with a win in the 1000 free (11:05.51) and Josh Weaver was 15 hundreths of a second behind for second place.

In the 200 free, Brian Mong took first with a time of 1:51.16 and Opalewski was runner-up in 1:58.82. The fourth event, the 50 free, Brendan Lacey was the first to touch in 22.89 and Jake Sherk earned four points with second in 24.42.

Behrend went on to win two more events. Eric Peirce was the only swimmer to clock in under a minute in the 100 free to take first (53.24). Sherk added a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:51.38.

Cody Mastowski aided in the final points for the Lions, coming in second in the 200 breaststroke (1:12.47).

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Washington & Jefferson. Meet time is 1 p.m.
