Record-Setting Day For Men's Swimming And Diving

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team remains out in front after the second day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship meet held at Grove City. The Lions are in first out of four teams with a score of 351 and are third out of nine teams among the PAC schools.

Records were falling by the wayside on the second day, with Behrend breaking the AMCC meet and team record in the six out of the seven events.

Clay Altemose tallied to top finish for the Lions, taking second place in the 100 butterfly with a conference and program record with a time of 51.78. He also joined the third-place 200 medley relay with Ben Strunk, Peter Blazak and Hunter Backenstose that broke both records in 1:37.22. Altemose made it a complete day with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke to break the conference and team record once again (53.15).

In the 400 IM, Steve Torre reset his program record with a time of 4:18.76 for fourth overall and at the same time broke the conference mark.

The fourth straight team and AMCC records were broken by Brendan Lacey in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.35 for fourth place. Josh Weaver came in sixth with a season-best time of 1:45.73.

Altemose swam the 100 back, before Strunk and Jake Sherk placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. Strunk clocked in at 1:01.00 and Sherk touched slightly behind in 1:01.33.

The final relay, the 800 free relay, consisting of Lacey, Weaver, Brian Mong and Torre placed second overall with a team and meet record of 7:02.03, taking five seconds off their preliminary time.

The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final day of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. and the finals start at 5:30 p.m.
