Men's Track and Field Compete at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, OH. - The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team competed at the John Homon Open Saturday afternon, hosted by Mount Union.

Mitchell Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) and Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) each had first-place finishes on the day in their respective field events. Obenrader had a toss of 16.84 meters (55'2.75") in the shot put while Patten vaulted to a height of 4.81 meters (15'9.25") to take the crown.

Obenrader came in seventh in the discus throw after a distance of 47.35 meters (155'4").

Patten was also part of the 4x4 relay team that qualified for ECACs today. Patten along with Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango), Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning), and Kurt Eberhardt (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton) combined for a time of 3:23.45, good enough for fifth place.

Grafton had an ECAC-qualifying time in the 100 meter dash this afternoon. He came in fourth after sprinting to an 11.03 second finish. He also raced in the 200 meter, coming in seventh after posting a time of 22.47 seconds.

Marcus Haesler (North East, PA/North East) competed in a loaded 110 meter hurdle field. The junior came in 10th and qualified for ECACs along the way with a time of 15.86 seconds.

In distance, Ian Griffith (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) placed fourth in the 10000 meter race after crossing the finish in 35:29.41. Jarrod Lipsey (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Aaron Peters (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) came in second and third in the steeplechase, respectively. Lipsey had a time of 10:00.13 while Peters crossed the finish in 10:07.08.

The Lions will compete again when they host the Behrend Invitational on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.
