Behrend Athletics Brings SwimJitsu to Erie

ERIE, Pa. – SwimJitsu is coming to Penn State Behrend to challenge kids in the Erie area to conquer the mash-up of an in-water obstacle course and swimming skills on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

SwimJitsu participants, also known as "swimjas," aim to complete entertaining obstacles such as balancing across beams, swimming through trenches and cannonballing off the top of Mt. Swimja. Once participants conquer the course and the three sacred traits of speed, agility and wisdom, they can claim the title of Grand Master Swimja. SwimJitsu is fun for participants of all ages and skill, even those just beginning their swimming journey.

Penn State Behrend Athletics and Behrend Swimming & Diving are hosting SwimJitsu as a unique activity that has never been to the Erie area before!

"We're excited to bring SwimJitsu to our facility as a fun activity for the Erie community to enjoy," said Jen Walalce, Head Coach, Penn State Behrend Swimming and Diving.

"We've taken SwimJitsu to the next level by adding more locations so that more participants can experience the fun of SwimJitsu and see what the sport of swimming offers," said USA Swimming Marketing Director Jim Fox. "Continuing to keep the 'edu-tainment' factor we're looking forward to introducing more 'swimjas' to the fun environment of swimming in 2017."

There will be three general admission waves of two-hour sessions for participants to attempt unlimited runs on the course. Each timed shift requires a registration. Participants can register for one of the three waves:

•           Wave 1: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
•           Wave 2: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
•           Wave 3: 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Awards will be given at the end of each wave for the best times per age group. There will also be four ninja-themed swimming games for competitors to practice their newfound abilities. Advance registration is $20 per two-hour block per person.
