ERIE, Pa. – Two Penn State Behrend baseball players have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Mideast All-Region Team. Seniors Ryan Kragnes (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) earned second team honors and Ryan Jacobs (Port Vue, PA/South Allegheny) nabbed third team recognition.
Kragnes held down the leadoff spot and played center field for the Lions this spring. A First-Team All-AMCC selection, Kragnes broke the program record for both stolen bases and walks, while leading the team in batting average (.397), hits (54), runs (46), walks (32), and stolen bases (25). Kragnes was first in the conference in on-base percentage (.517) and in runs scored, while ranking 11th nationally for base on balls.
Jacobs is one of five pitchers named to the third team after a stellar year as Behrend's ace. The AMCC Pitcher of the Year led the team with a 1.64 ERA and an 8-2 record in 11 starts. The right-hander tossed one complete game and struck out a team-high 58 batters in 66 innings. Jacobs broke the school record for wins and innings pitched, while becoming the first player in program history to throw a perfect game.
The Lions wrapped up its campaign last week at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Behrend qualified for NCAA's by securing the school's fifth AMCC title with an undefeated run through the conference tournament. The Lions concluded the year with an overall record of 30-12.
