ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend baseball player Ryan Jacobs (Port Vue, PA/South Allegheny) picked up numerous awards this week after throwing the first perfect game in school history on Sunday against Mount Aloysius.
Jacobs dominated on the mound for the Lions (20-8, 11-1 AMCC) with six strikeouts in seven innings to shut down the Mounties offense that came into the game hitting above .300. For his efforts, Jacobs earned six different accolades this week.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) named Jacobs the Pitcher of the Week on Monday. The senior pitcher was then tabbed as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Pitcher of the Week. D3baseball.com selected Jacobs for their Team of the Week and also named him the National Pitcher of the Week. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) honored Jacobs as the Division III National Pitcher of the Week as well. Finally, Jacobs received WJET TV’s Bob Ferrando Ford Lincoln Athlete of the Week award.
