Behrend Baseball Helps Habitat for Humanity in Division III Week of Service

ERIE, Pa. - The Behrend Lions baseball program participated in its annual commitment with Habitat for Humanity on Thursday, November 30. The baseball program players and coaches provided work on a new home build in Erie.

"This has been a wonderful way for us to give back to the Erie community," said Paul Benim, who enters his 32nd season as a head coach at Behrend. "Today our baseball program made a difference in a local families lives. We played a small role by spending a day helping contribute to Habitat for Humanity. An organization that does an amazing job assisting families."

In previous years with Habitat, the baseball program has built storage sheds for new homes, completed roofing, worked on interiors and exteriors of homes, and organized the Habitat warehouse.  The morning began with the moving of a couple pallets of flooring and boxes of new cabinets into the new home. Senior Evan Bromley shared, "Habitat for Humanity gave us the opportunity to help people within our community while growing closer as a team."

Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates houses and neighborhoods by providing simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need. Reaching out from Christian roots across denominational, faith, economic and racial lines, Habitat works in partnership with prospective and existing homeowners, volunteers, donors, community organizations and all those who can help reach these goals.

"We are grateful for the chance to contribute to Habitat for Humanity," said junior pitcher Alec Greenblatt. "Truly enjoyed the experience and look forward to having opportunities to make an impact like that in the future."
