FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team opened its Spring break trip with a 12-0 shutout win over Wilkes Saturday afternoon. It was an originally scheduled doubleheader with the Colonels, but game two was postponed due to inclement weather.

Key Moments:

* Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) got the Lions on the board first with a two-RBI double in the top of the third
* Ciocco and Chase Palmer (Brookville, PA/Brookeville) were then hit in on a Thomas Nicely (Delmont, PA/Franklin Regional) single to put Behrend ahead 4-0
* In the the top of the fourth inning, Behrend would extend its lead to 7-0, scoring three runs on a passed ball and a bases loaded walk
* Freshman Spencer Deitz (Erie, PA/McDowell) recorded his first collegiate RBI with a sac fly in the fifth inning
* Anthony Slate (Hopewell, PA /Hopewell) capped off the scoring for the Lions with a bases clearing triple in the seventh; he would then go on to score on an error by the Colonels second baseman
* Starter Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) picked up his second win on the mound, only allowing one hit in 4.1 innings and striking out five
* Out of the bullpen, Andrew Bredel (Clinton, PA/Burgettstown) tossed 1.2 no hit innings, while Nathan Campbell (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) closed game one out with a one, two, three seventh inning
* Nicely (2-for-3) and Gibson (2-for-4) each tallied a team-high two hits, while Slate drove in three runners and Deitz scored three runs
* Nathan Loch delivered the lone hit for Wilkes
