Behrend Scores Five Unanswered Runs to Beat Wilkes

FORT PIERCE, Fl. - The Penn State Behrend Baseball team defeated Wilkes Wednesday afternoon, 10-5.

The Lions (3-5) scored four first-inning runs and then overcame a 5-5 tie later in the game to pick up their third straight win.

Behrend broke things open in the first by stringing three straight hits together. Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) hit back to back singles and then Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) triples to bring the pair around.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored Sada with a single and then Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny crushed a double to score Bohman.

Hamm finished the day going 3-for-5 from the dish with three doubles and three RBIs.

Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) added a run for the Lions in the third with a solo shot.

However, Wilkes responded with three runs in the third and two more in the fifth to make it a 5-5 ballgame.

Behrend then scored five unanswered runs to finish the game and take the 10-5 win.

Sada doubled to get things going in the seventh and then moved to third after David Boehme (Venentia, PA/Senton-La Salle) got down a sacrifice bunt.

Later in the inning, Hamm doubled again to score foreman and making the score 7-5.

In the eighth, Behrend took advantage of two Wilkes wild pitches and an error to plate three more runs.

Sada and Bohman each finished the game with two hits and two RBIs.

Eric Mikulan (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton) pitched four shutdown innings to close out the game and pick up the win. He allowed just one hit while striking out six.

The Lions will be back on the diamond tomorrow against Northwestern with first pitch coming at 11 a.m.
